We exist to help people fight Sickle Cell

The Heart of Gold Sickle Cell Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Northern Virginia.

The Heart of Gold Sickle Cell Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Northern Virginia. We advocate for people and their families affected by sickle cell disease. Our founder and CEO, Clarissa Pearson was born with sickle cell disease and passed away in 2021 because her body became too weak from the wear and tear of this terrible illness.

It is our goal to continue her vision of supporting individuals and families via resources, and advocacy. We believe that SCD can be eradicated in future generations through unity, education, genetic testing and awareness.

Treatment

Health maintenance for patients with sickle cell disease starts with early diagnosis, preferably in the newborn period and includes penicillin prophylaxis, vaccination against pneumococcus bacteria and folic acid supplementation.
