James Sims is a 2022 recipient of the Heart of Gold Legacy Scholarship. He is a 2022 graduate of Edmund Burke High School in Washington, DC graduating with a 3.1 GPA. One of the unusual languages that he took was Chinese. He has been on the Honor Roll from grades 10 – 12 and served as Co-President of Student Government, Student Admissions Ambassador, and was a Varsity Basketball Player (who won the St. Anselm’s Invitational All tournament Award for being the exceptional player). He was also a member of the Young Black Men’s Club and the Stock Market Club.

James provided community service as a youth volunteer for Food and Friends; delivering meals to homes of seriously ill individuals throughout Maryland and DC, and collaborates with his family to identify a family from area shelters to ensure the identified family has a memorable Christmas. He is a member of Randall Memorial UMC Community Outreach where he sings in the choir and participates in feeding the homeless events and is a Secret Santa Shopper. He is also a Youth Liturgist, responsible for facilitating worship service, engaging the congregation by reading scriptures, leading calls to worship and assisting when communion is served. He was a Youth Scholar- Georgetown University Institute of College Preparation and participated in a pre-college academic enrichment program. He worked at Pier One Store and Georgetown Day School in the TIC Summer Camp.

James will be attending Ursinus University and looks forward to one day teaching 6-12 graders and eventually becoming a principal.
