September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Everyone is encouraged to register for Be The Match. It is difficult for anyone to find a match, even more so for patients with SCD because the registry has a low number of African Americans signed up. Although people of different races are matches for each other, there is a better match chance if from the same ethnic background.
