Congratulations to Ayana Johnson! On June 25 she was crowned Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen for 2022.
Ayana who is from Suffolk, Va., mission during her reign, is a social impact initiative entitled, Ayana’s R.E.A.D. – Readiness to Empower, Advocate and Dimmish Hopelessness in Chronic Illness.
Diagnosed with sickle cell disease at birth, Ayana learned to manage her illness and become a voice to those who feel like they cannot advocate for themselves.
“I have lived with this illness for my entire life and have learned to overcome it and ultimately be a voice to those who feel like they cannot advocate for themselves. I have done numerous public speaking appearances to educate the public on underrepresented chronic illnesses and I am the national teen ambassador for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA).”
